Hangaya addresses issues of waste in the world..
We are starting with our home base Zanzibar, Tanzania, an island located In the heart of the blue initiative, and prioritizing how we live in harmony with Mother Nature. We aim to envision seven generations ahead, leaving our planet in a better condition than we found. We are selecting the best Pyrolysis Technology on the market with guidance from our Chief Technological Engineer, Dr. Erfan Ibrahim. This technology converts municipal solid carbonaceous waste, plastics, and hard-to-deal-with hazardous waste such as medical and sludge by turning with 80% efficiency back into a circular economy, creating diesel fuel, electricity, biochar, and inert ash. We will use technology to clean our environment by converting carbonaceous elements inside the waste. Addressing issues waste presents to people's health by protecting the water supply (the water aquifers) and reducing disease and illness in the populations, providing a continuous source of sustainable, green energy 365 days a year, 24/7. We will create a microgrid here in Zanzibar, alleviating complete dependency on power from mainland Tanzania.

Around the time of forming Hangaya, our great president Mama Samia Suluhu Hassan was crowned "chief of chiefs" and given the name "Hangaya", which means "shining star".
